The Dream ... |
|
I am on a cruise --
not sure if I am alone or with someone else ... at some point I slide wide off the side of the ship (that really looks more like a sloping house roof), and find it hard to get back up there.
I am really scared ... and just hanging on. I did manage to pull myself up, but it was a really daunting task. Then others are in my space/room waiting for me to leave. I have to catch a plane or think it might be a helicopter.
Now I am standing in a VIP waiting area with the ship captain who is trying to pull some strings to get me out of there.
I don't know when I'm supposed to leave, but a ship's officer asks me to sign something. I have my pen in hand, but the officer just says "OK" and rushes off with my fingerprint instead - some new kind of technology. |
The Personal Path
Hanging on in a dream usually represents a circumstance in reality that is overwhelming. Here, it appears to have to do with preparing for a journey, and the urgency to get packed and get off the ship in time. It appears also that others are also ready for the dreamer to move on in the journey, represented by the language, "others are in my space/room waiting for me to leave".
The dreamer has to get ready to "catch a plane" or perhaps "helicopter" to the next destination, although the method of the flight is still unclear. Climbing overboard at first - or, "sliding wide off the side of the ship", and then trying to climb back up the side proves to be a tricky and 'slippery' maneuver, because the side of the ship changes into the roof of a house boat.
The dream points to the difficulty in deciding how to best navigate this very ‘slippery slope’, but notice how the dreamer actually falls “wide of the side” which is quite an excellent symbol, because it means there is a wide berth, or more room than imagined to maneuver well, even under the ‘daunting’ circumstances of being ‘over board’. The stability in the ‘slide’ is further represented by the transformation of the ship into a house boat’ , a structure that is far more stable in reality than a cruise ship, because of the foundation.
Putting together the symbols of the transforming cruise ‘ship’, ‘captain’, ‘ship’s first officer’, and ‘pulling strings' (read: a lot of 'pull'), this is a very powerful spiritual dream about a well-anchored and well-guided path, although the dream action suggests at first, that this is only a dream about about ‘hanging on’.
The Spiritual Path
The location and action of the dream will clarify the spiritual context, as is true in this ocean cruise dream. The entire focus is the activity on the “Captain’s Ship” and getting to the next destination. Officers in a dream are always spiritual guides, but when the Commander of the ship appears as the guide, it is an extraordinary symbol of spiritual direction and guidance on a very sacred journey.
There is a time schedule though, represented by the many ‘officers’ and others at the direction of the Captain who are ‘pulling strings’ to get the dreamer to the ‘plane’, or it could be a ‘helicopter’, which is even a stronger spiritual symbol, because it is a ‘direct flight up’, literally. A helicopter in a dream is also a symbol for a domestic flight, not an international destination, although the presence of the helicopter in this dream appears to point only to a direct path ‘up’, because it is always clear that the goal is to catch a ‘plane’.
Finally, the ‘ship’s officer asks for a signature, which is another strong spiritual symbol representing that a commitment is required to go on the journey. The dreamer is ready with ‘pen in hand’ (symbolizing spiritual readiness to make the commitment, to 'sign on' for the journey) but does not even have time to ‘sign’, because the ‘officer’ says “OK” and ‘rushes off with a fingerprint instead. The commitment is already decided and ‘affirmed’ in the dream, symbolized by the “OK”, or the permission that is granted by the ‘fingerprint’, an ‘imprint’ unique to the dreamer’s identity.
Ultimately, a 'fingerprint signature' points to a path that is so specific in soul and spirit to the dreamer as to be almost a genetic code, or a path that will be known for the legacy of the dreamer's imprint. A very powerful dream indeed ... but, it surfaces at this time of transition in the dreamer's life, because the message about both path and purpose needed to be clarified and affirmed.
Application and Summary
In summary, The dream appears to be about hanging on through "daunting" circumstances, but the presence of the Ship’s captain and a time-driven destination make it very clear that a ‘high’ unique spiritual calling is involved ... at first it seems a bit overwhelming in its grasp, symbolized by the 'slippery slope houseboat', but there are guides at every point to make sure the dreamer gets all the help needed to get through the adventure and to the new destination on time!
